Last weekend, i went to Bawang Assam Longhouse with Sibu Photographic Club. That was my first time to met all of the photographic club members from Sibu. It was an hour drive from Sibu town to Bawang Assam Longhouse and BengBeng’s buddy drove us there (thanks ya). While we were on the car heading to the longhouse, surprisingly, BengBeng speaks Chinese to his buddy. I stunned, that was my first time that i heard BengBeng speaks in Chinese.
There were about 20 members from Sibu Photographic Club joined this event and some of them are professional photographer. So, that event was a good opportunity for me to learn some photographic skills from them and also meet some new friends.
We parked our cars beside the main road and we walked 15mins heading to the longhouse. The picture shows members of the Sibu Photographic Club.
As we get closer and closer to the longhouse, we heard “dong~dong~dong” coming out from the longhouse, it was the traditional music played by them to welcoming us.
Drinking (Rice wine) so called “Tuak” in Iban is a part of the traditional welcoming ceremony. It is an alcoholic beverage made from rice. The occupants will offer you “tuak” as a welcoming drink.
Ibans perform a unique dance called “ngajat” in Iban. The ngajat for men is more aggressive if compared to women.
Women has different styles of “ngajat”. The “ngajat” for women involves a lot of body-turning movements.
Photo grabbed from mylongkang.com. I was dragged by the Iban lady dancer to perform the “Ngajat” with them. *shy*
After the welcoming ceremony, we were then served by the local desserts which made by them.
